GSA Advantage Just Updated Photo Processing. High-quality product photos are essential for improving visibility and helping customers make informed purchasing decisions on GSA Advantage! To enhance the product image submission process, the General Services Administration (GSA) has introduced several improvements to the FAS Catalog Platform (FCP), effective June 30, 2026.
These updates provide better reporting, support larger image files, and make it easier for contractors to identify and correct photo submission issues before publication.
Enhanced Photo Submission Report
FCP now offers a more detailed Photo Submission Report, replacing the limited status information previously available through GSA Advantage.
The enhanced report allows vendors to:
- See whether all, some, or none of the submitted photos were processed successfully.
- View detailed error messages for each photo that fails processing.
- Receive a separate processing report for every uploaded ZIP file.
- Easily identify which photos need to be resubmitted via a new photo action.
Since photos are evaluated one error at a time, correcting one issue may reveal another during a subsequent upload. Vendors should carefully review all image requirements before resubmitting files.
New Photo Action History
FCP now includes a View Photo File History option within the Latest Catalog Data section of the Catalog Overview page.
This feature enables vendors to:
- Review previous photo upload actions.
- Access uploaded photo files.
- View summaries showing the number of photos submitted, successfully processed, and unsuccessfully processed.
This additional visibility makes it easier to track photo submissions and monitor publishing progress.
Increased File Size Limits
To reduce the need for image compression and file splitting, FCP now supports uploads up to 10 times larger.

Additional upload requirements include:
- Each ZIP file must contain at least one image and no more than 100,000 images.
- Multiple ZIP files may be uploaded within a single photo action.
- ZIP file names must contain fewer than 80 characters and use only letters, numbers, and underscores.
Although higher-resolution images can now be uploaded, GSA Advantage! will continue to automatically compress images before publishing since it does not currently display full-resolution photos.
Photo Requirements That Remain Unchanged
Several photo requirements remain the same:
- File Name: Fewer than 80 characters using only letters, numbers, and underscores. The file name must exactly match the Photo File Reference listed in the approved Product File.
- Supported Formats: JPG, JPEG, and non-animated GIF.
- Minimum Resolution: 500 × 500 pixels.
- Photo Content: Images must accurately represent the product being offered. Company logos or images of different products should not be used.
Best Practices for Product Images
To improve product presentation on GSA Advantage, vendors should:
- Upload multiple images showing different product angles and accessories.
- Include photos for optional configurations whenever applicable.
- Use clear, well-lit, high-quality images.
- Ensure the product occupies approximately 80% of the image while remaining fully visible.
These practices help customers better understand the product and improve the overall shopping experience.

Automatic Thumbnail Generation
After successful processing, GSA Advantage automatically generates thumbnails for product listings.
Images are resized to:
- 200 × 200 pixels for search results.
- 40 × 40 pixels for thumbnail previews.
- 500 × 500 pixels for the primary product image.
If necessary, white space is automatically added to create a square image for consistent display across the marketplace.
Important Reminder Before Publishing Photos
A successfully uploaded image will only appear on GSA Advantage! if its exact file name matches the Photo File Reference listed within an approved Product File.
If vendors need to change a photo file name, they must:
- Open a Product Descriptive Modification in eMod.
- Submit a Change Products action in FCP with an updated Product File referencing the new image file names.
Additionally, certain Special Item Numbers (SINs) require product photos for every catalog item. Contractors should verify whether their SINs require images before submitting catalog updates.
